How to Create Bedroom Calm

The bedroom is where we spend time regenerating, resetting and refreshing. I’m going to talk you through some easy hacks to upgrade your bedroom for a better oasis and to maximise your chances of a better nights especially in the lead up to Christmas, when life tends to become overly chaotic. My general mantra in Less is More when it comes to the bedroom.

Tidy Up
First and foremost, you should make sure your bedroom is clean both hygienically and aesthetically, this will instantly make you feel like you're in control of your own room and with less to overwhelm your senses, stimulation before shut eye should be kept at bay.

Freshen Up the Walls
Whether you feel like embarking on an actual DIY project and repainting the entire bedroom or you just want to touch up your white walls, a little freshening up can go a long way.  I love green and pink as a calming colour combination for the bedroom, Edward Bulmer's Light Olive Green in contrast to Craig & Rose's Alhambra Stone really do the trick.

Declutter and Prep Your Bedside Table
Make sure you have everything you'll need before bed and throughout the night within reach so you don't have to get up and interrupt your sleep. Things like a noise machine, a hand painted carafe set, a wooden tray, an eye mask, lip balm and good lighting need to be on hand. A great book to help you declutter is called Let it Go by Peter Walsh

Purify the Air Naturally
We all know the negative affect breathing polluted air has on our bodies and minds. Peace Lilies and Ferns are fantastic at sucking up toxins and breathing out oxygen. Place a couple in your room and let them do the rest.

Upgrade your Pillow
We spend about one-third of our life either sleeping or attempting to do so which means upgrading your pillow to a comfortable one is essential. I recently purchased the Groove Pillow with its ergo-dynamic dip it relieves neck and shoulder stiffness. I'm not such a fan of pillow mists but tying a dried bunch of lavender together and hanging it by your bedside can really help you unwind.

Invest in Good Quality Bed Linens
Good quality linen can last generations provided it’s looked after with love. I always think it’s best to plysically touch and see the bed linen in person by visiting the stores. Sign up to the newsletters of Cologne & CottonPiglet in Bed, Monogrammed Linen Shop, Matouk Luxury Linens or De Porthault, they have sales throughout the year. It’s better to invest well from the get-go than waste money on a second-rate set, good quality should come first.
